How we work

We walk it first. Then we plant.

The walkthroughStep 1 of 3
  1. 1

    The walkthrough

Every job starts with a real conversation about your garden, your budget, and what actually makes sense for this coast. No pressure, no guesswork.

Plot cleared to bare ground with mulch, established trees kept standing
  2. 2

    The plan

An indigenous, water-wise approach built around what genuinely grows well here, not a generic planting list.

The story

Trained in conservation. Rooted here.

Ashley Banwell Gardens was founded in 2014 by Ashley and her husband Neville.

Ashley's connection to gardening runs deeper than most: a farming background, formal training in nature conservation, and years managing a 17-hectare estate garden in Hout Bay before bringing that experience home to the Cape Whale Coast.

That shows in the work: a real focus on indigenous fynbos, the coastal vegetation naturally suited to this stretch of the Cape. Gardens are designed to work with the local environment, not against it.

Why people hire us

Hired for the work. Remembered for the care.

Questions

Straight answers.

What areas do you serve?

Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay, Rooi Els and Kleinmond: the whole Cape Whale Coast.

Do you handle design and ongoing maintenance?

Yes, we handle full turnkey projects. We design, install, and then maintain the garden going forward.

Do you provide free quotes?

Yes, every quote is free. Pricing itself is project based: it depends on the scope and size of the job, not a flat rate.

How long does a project take?

It depends on the job and the time of year. Most jobs can be done within a week or two. August to December is the busy season, because everyone wants things finished before the Christmas shutdown. Bigger jobs sometimes have to wait, and at the busiest times the waiting list has been three to four months, because the team does the work itself and does not outsource.

Do you use your own team?

Yes, no subcontractors. Most of the team has been with Ashley for seven to ten years, built up together from the start. Everyone is cross-trained, so the same crew that handles landscaping can run a full garden service too.
